Workplace wellbeing is under pressure, we cannot afford to ignore it

A man in a black suit sits at a table with a laptop, notebook, and coffee cup, looking thoughtfully to the side in a modern office setting.

Workplace wellbeing in the UK is hitting a dangerous low.

Recent data shows a sharp decline in employee well-being, especially among under 35s, frontline managers and men. The numbers are more than just a statistic they represent real people, real lives, and real mental health risks.

In a world that is always online, always on and increasingly demanding, we are facing a silent crisis. This isn’t just about burnout is about long term damage to our emotional resilience, decision-making, and sense of purpose at work.

The warning signs are clear.

  • Younger workers and frontline staff are reporting higher levels of
  • Stress at work.
  • Mental health struggles.
  • Burnout symptoms.
  • Low job satisfaction.

And the support systems many organisations claim to have in place are often too generic, too reactive, or simply not fit for purpose.

A growing number of employees are quietly asking.

Is this job worthwhile?

How I manage my anxiety work?

Why does no one talk about real mental health support in our work place?

These are the questions that leaders can no longer afford to ignore.

What’s driving the decline?

It’s not just about workload. It is the disconnect between workplace reality and human need.

Lack of purpose in day-to-day tasks.

Poor leadership communication.

Minimal emotional support structures.

Stigma around mental health, especially men!

Toxic cultures of overwork and “performance resilience”.

We are seeing this especially among the under 35, a generation more willing to speak about mental health, but still being met with outdated responses.

Health isn’t a perk it it the foundation.

If you are serious about your people, then well-being cannot be treated like a side project. It has to be baked into the DNA of your culture.

Not just access to apps or token perks.
